I must say that I'm impressed that these Star Wars folks are dancing as well as they are (yes, MC Hammer dancing is fantastic). I imagine them to be either in shape or sweating bullets inside those suits, regretting the Burger King value meal they had earlier that day. Note the man who shouts "WHOA!" in the beginning. I imagine this to be the most exciting thing he's ever seen, second only to a real live boob. posted by Mr. Alexander Shen @ 8:32 PM Permalink | | Welcome back! Listening to: Nothing. ![]() This is the icon/avatar I use for my MSN Instant Messenger (yes, I still use this thing for work purposes only). It loads when my laptop is booted up in the morning. I can only imagine my cat to look and feel this way when he sees me come home from work. RSS subscribers remain apathetic. Listening to: A grumbly tummy. ![]() I've done away with the ads (except links out to Amazon.com) because I feel like they didn't really do much for the site. I don't garner enough traffic to generate anything more than make believe currency. Also, now the website should load those few seconds faster. I changed the navigation toolbar as well because I realized that it wasn't as clear as it could have been. Some people were unsure of how to get anywhere and imagined the original implementation was just a poorly placed illustration of just words. I also linked my original song Legacy that I performed earlier this month in San Francisco (the whole city!). You can check it out on the music section. It's even got a nice photo taken by a friend. I saw the last 20 minutes of the movie Hot Rod a few weeks ago on television. This scene came on and I laughed my socks right off! Seriously! They just loosened themselves up and shot right off of my feet because this scene contained so much humor juice! I couldn't handle it. I thought I'd share. I'm a tourist! - Trip to Seattle Listening to: 175R - Memory ![]() I went to Seattle last week for Casual Connect. It was a pretty great experience to meet with so many different develops and service providers in the space. It was definitely as casual as a conference gets, with people just sitting around and a medium sized trickle splashing from table to table, booth to booth. On the last day of the conference, I had the afternoon to myself and was able to do some quick tourist business. I first visited Pike Place Fish Market, home of the flying seafood. When there's an order, the lead man yells it and the rest of the crew yell it back. Then, if the mood and time is right, a fish will sail across the way and into the arms of a worker. This place has been the focus for team building videos that they show at retail stores like Target. It's about making the work environment fun (note: "fun" is relative to how much customer "assery" you can withstand). I then took a trip to the Science Fiction Museum to check out the limited engagement Jim Henson's Muppets Experience. It was really great to see things like Kermit, Bert and Ernie in person. They're quite large, actually. A lot of the footage and slides shown throughout the exhibit showed the creativity of Jim Henson and what a fine man he was. I was glad to have been able to visit. I also went up the Space Needle, but that was like looking out the window of an airplane. Simply terrifying. posted by Mr. Alexander Shen @ 9:14 AM Permalink | | Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Cry about it. Listening to: Musiq Soulchild - ifuleave I felt the need to temporarily resurface this video/image of James Van Der Beek crying and shaking uncontrollably. He must have had a really rough talk with Katie Holmes. Listening to: Nothing. ![]() It's been a while since I updated the blog. I was in Seattle last week for a convention in the casual gaming space and found very little time to do anything else. I'll have a more lengthy post, with appropriate accompanying illustrations, in the near future. Until then, go and check out Robot in the City. It's been about one month since I updated last and it feels good to be back on the wagon. You know, because being off the wagon forces you to deal with snake bites, cholera and fording rivers. posted by Mr. Alexander Shen @ 2:48 PM Permalink | | Friday, July 17, 2009 Pista del Muerto and lost data. Listening to: Nothing. ![]() I went and uploaded another comic strip I did back in college (2002) called Pista del Muerto. How fun! It was during a time when I was still pursuing a path of computer science (HA!) and realized that I didn't want to do it. The comic touches, very briefly, upon this and then goes off to the world of boob references and whatnot. Go read it or don't! It's roughly 95 strips long. Then... I was doing a brief search last night on my computer for some files and realized that when the hard drive pooped out earlier this year, I lost a considerable amount of data with it. What this means specifically is that I lost a lot of comic strips I did a few years ago, including the last few strips for Gashapon Shop that only appeared in the book. The originals are floating around somewhere on my stack of papers, but without text. It's a shame, really. Goes to show you what happens when you don't back things up regularly. Lesson learned, I suppose. After all that time, I only recently was able to procure a Dollfie Dream II body. It's like this 60cm. action figure. I wanted to share one of the photos I took. Now I just have to find some 1/3 scale weaponry (I'm thinking sniper rifle a la Yoko from Gurren Lagann). In the meantime, she'll just sit there and take up half the desk. Strangely enough, this particular figure doesn't make me think that it'll start moving in the middle of the night and murder me in my sleep. Call it luck, eh? posted by Mr. Alexander Shen @ 8:25 AM Permalink | | Thursday, July 16, 2009 Aminals! A webcomic from 2003. Listening to: Nothing. ![]() I was poking around some of my old comics archives that still reside on the internet in dying hobbles when I stumbled across Aminals. It was something I did in 2003 and my attempt at using "crude humor" as a way to express one of the many facets of my heart. It was a short lived experience and lasted only 23 strips. I also realized that I don't have my other two strips Soks and Pista del Muerto readily available either. I think this calls for a weekend (not necessarily this weekend) project! I think in a span of six years or so, that's roughly 800+ individual comic strips I've done. Not bad for someone who doesn't get paid to do it. Oop, the book signing's in about 30 minutes! Better get ready! If you're in San Francisco tonight, come to the book signing! Details can be found here. I decided to give Amazon.com's digital text platform (currently in Beta) a try. It essentially allows you to upload whatever you want to the site for download for your Kindle. If you don't have a Kindle, or already own a copy of the whole thing, then I guess this news post is pretty useless. However, now you've learned that you too can publish on the Kindle... for free! Anyway, I included the first 209 strips for the $4.99 download. I'll probably release the last 40-something strips for free in the near future. I just want to see how it works as I plan on releasing a book of short stories with a "friend" of mine who also write fiction. It will essentially be what the previous Capesville novel never was: completed. Listening to: Nothing. ![]() I'm not quite sure why, but this clip from Family Guy made me laugh. Actually, I do know why it made me laugh. It was funny. Does anyone know where this way of saying "Say what?" originated from? Anyway, that's all. Nothing to see here. Move along. Listening to: Nothing. ![]() Giant Robot in San Francisco will be putting together a book signing from some of the Bay Area artists who worked on Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. That includes yours truly! It's pretty exciting since I've never been invited to Giant Robot for any previous event (and they always look so cool) and I'm still excited about the whole idea of being a part of Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. In any case, come out if you're in the area! I'd love to see you there and doodle something on a napkin for you. posted by Mr. Alexander Shen @ 1:27 PM Permalink | | Wednesday, July 8, 2009 Performance This Saturday!
